My password appears in the login box whenever I visit Connecting Singles.
How do I stop this?

First of all, this is your Browser saving your password for you and putting it into the login box on Connecting Singles! Connecting Singles is not putting it there for you!!! Fortunately you can fix this. See directions below.
If your password automatically appears in the login box, it means Password Manager is enabled on your computer. You enabled it the first time you came to Connecting Singles (or any other site), when your browser gave you a pop-up message asking if you wanted to save your login info for this site. If you clicked yes, your username and password would automatically be entered into the login box every time you came to that site using that computer, and anyone after you could sign in as you also. This is a Browser setting and has nothing to do with our website.

You can disable that auto-login feature. Go to your Browser's Help page for assistance. To protect your privacy, you should NOT use Password Manager if you share a computer with anyone else, or use a computer in a library or other public place. If you are concerned about your password on the site, you should change it - click on Edit Profile in top nav, and then click on Edit signup info.

Firefox: Directions for disabling auto login

UPLOADING PHOTOS

How do I upload a photo to my Profile?
You may have up to 3 photos with your profile. Once logged in, click on Photos in the top navigation bar. Click the Browse button and a file dialog window will appear on your screen. Locate the path of the image file you wish to upload and double click on it. The file dialog window will disappear. Then click Upload Photo on the Photo page. Thumbnails of the photos you upload will appear at the top of the page. These thumbnails are only the small version of your photo used in search results. A full version of the photo will be seen on your profile page.

Photos should be in a .jpg file format, no larger than 200kb in size.
Photos must be of you alone - no children or other people.

I am having trouble uploading or emailing my photo.
Large photo files take a long time to upload. They may time out. If you have trouble uploading or emailing your photo, the photo file is probably too large or it was not in the right file format (must be .jpg format).
If possible, reduce the size or resolution of your photos and try them again. Photos must be in a .jpg format. 200-400 pixels in size is best.

Send your photos by EMAIL:
Go to the Photos page for details.

Send your photos by MAIL:
We provide this service completely FREE of charge to our members! Go to the Photos page for details.

What format and size does ConnectingSingles.com accept?
ConnectingSingles.com accepts JPG/JPEG format only. If you have a photo in a format other than JPG/JPEG, please convert it, or send it to us by email or mail and we will convert it for you. Your photo must not exceed 200kb. If it is larger than this, you can make the file smaller by cropping out unnecessary background, shrinking the height and width of your photo, or reducing the resolution.

IM HELP
What do I need in order to use the IM?
  • Have Flash installed
  • Have Javascript enabled
  • Have popups for this site enabled
  • Read and follow the rules below
See section on Chat Problems for more information

How do I chat privately with another member?
There are several ways to do this:
  1. You can click the "IM" button while viewing a member's profile. This will popup a chat window where you can chat with the member.
  2. When you are in the Public Chat, you can chat privately with another chat-user by doing one of the following:
    1. Click on their username on the username list on the left. Their info and picture will load in the window in the lower left of the chat. Then click the IM button underneath their picture. A private chat window will load for both of you so you can chat between the two of you.
    2. In the Public Chat window, you can type <nameOfUser>: private message. This will put your private message along with the public messages in the web chat window. But only the user you type will see your message. For example. If you want to type a private message to Tallbrunette22. Type <Tallbrunette22>: this is a private message. This is called a "whisper". Be careful when you do this, otherwise all will see what you have written.
I am trying to IM a member, but they are not answering?
  1. Make sure to type a message and press send. The chat doesn't load on their end until you type the first message.
  2. Be patient. The other member must read the Chat Terms before chatting with you, so allow enough time for that.
  3. It could be that they are not online on the site, and are not receiving your chat.
  4. It could be that they do not have a browser that will work with the chat.
  5. It could be that they simply do not have time or want to chat at this time.
  6. You can try again later, or send them an email.
To add the member you are chatting with to your Favorites List:
Click the "+" button in the upper right of the chat window, and the member will be added to your Favorites List. You can access this list by clicking on "Favorites" in the top navigation bar.

To Block/Unblock the member from chatting with you:
Click the button underneath the "+" button in the upper right of the chat window, if it says block, then clicking the button will block the member from chatting with you. If it says "unblock" then the member is already blocked and clicking the button will unblock the member and enable chatting again. The block button will block the member from IMing you, and you will no longer be able to see what the member types in the public chat.

How do I view the members profile:
Click the grey button with the member's username in it. The members profile will load in the window BEHIND the chat.

What are the Chat rules, and will I get banned for breaking them?
You must know and follow the rules to use the chat. Failing to do so, could result in you being banned from the chat or from the site. Chatting is a privilege that most sites charge for. Chat is free on this site, but you must follow the rules!

CHAT HELP
What do I need in order to use the Chat?
  • Have Flash installed
  • Have Javascript enabled
  • Have popups for this site enabled
  • Read and follow the rules below
See section on Chat Problems for more information

How do I access the Connecting Singles Chat Rooms?
Click on Chat in the top navigation bar. Read the Chat info and rules and make sure you agree. If so, scoll to the bottom of the page and click "I agree, Launch Chat". A window will popup and the Chat will load in that window. Near the bottom of the window you can type text and press "send" and the other members in the chat room will see what you typed.
If you do not agree with any of the rules and terms, then do not use the chat rooms.

Can I switch rooms once I'm in the chat?
When you first enter the chat, you will be in the default room called "Connecting Singles Lounge". To switch rooms, find the room you want to join on the left side of the chat, then click on that room to select it, and then click the "Join" button. Members in the rooms will know when you enter and when you leave.

Can I create my own chat room?
Yes you can! Just click "New Room" on the upper left side of the chat window. Then at the prompt, type in a room name, and a description of that room, and press "OK". Others will see your new room immediately and will be able to join it.

How do I view another member's profile while in a chat room?
Click on their username in the user list on the left side of the chat window. Their thumbnail photo and a brief summary will appear on the lower left side of the chat window. To view their profile, click the "Profile" button under their info. Their profile will load in the window behind the chat.

What does the "Add Friend" button do?
When you select a username in the left side of the chat, the member's Profile Stats will load in the lower left of the chat, along with a button to "Add Friend". This button will add this member to your Favorites List. You can access your Favorites List by clicking on "Favorites" in the top navigation bar. Once you have added the member as a Friend to your Favorites List, the button will change to say "Remove Friend". Clicking this button will remove this member from your Favorites List.

How do I block a member from chatting with me?
Find the username in the list on the left side of the chat window and click on it. The member's information will load in the lower left of the chat, along with a button to "Block". This button will block this member from IMing you, and you will no longer be able to see what that member types in the public chat. Once blocked, the button will change to say "Unblock". Click this button to unblock the member.

Can I send a private message to another member while in the public chat room?
Yes you can. There are two ways to do this:
  1. Click on their username on the username list on the left. Their info and picture will load in the window in the lower left of the chat. Then click the IM button underneath their picture. A private chat window will load between you and the other user where you can chat between the two of you. Other members will not know about your private chat or be able to read it. (their window will not load until you type something and press "send" first).
Is the Chat moderated?
To use Chat features, members agree to follow the Chat Rules. Minors cannot use this site so members are all adults and expected to act accordingly. Staff does not hold hands here to make sure members follow rules. Staff may view chat areas occasionally and when called. Rule breakers WILL be removed with or without notice! Staff will cooperate with law enforcement when required to provide transcripts if law is broken.

What are the Chat rules, and will I get banned for breaking them?
Chat is provided free on this site to help members get to know each other. Chat Rules help to make it fun and safe for everyone. Failure to follow the Chat Rules may result in you being banned from using chat or from the site. Chatting is a privilege that most sites charge for. Don't risk losing this feature. Report rule breakers & solicitors.

MAIL DISAPPEARED

All my mail disappeared with a member I was talking to
If your messages to and from a member are gone, this probably means they were deleted by staff for good reason - either they were a scammer, married, or there were complaints about them. If they cancelled, their messages to you would still be there.

PROFILE DISAPPEARED

Why did my profile get deleted?
Your profile may have been deleted for one of the following reasons:
  • You submitted an invalid email address or other invalid information
  • You do not reside within membership area - if your location is not on list, you may not join.
  • You did not complete your profile
  • You entered gibberish in narratives
  • You entered narrative text that is not appropriate for the site
  • You used the site for soliciting or advertising, posting a URL.
  • You posted inappropriate or offensive content to the forums.
  • We received complaints about your profile or your behavior on the site.
  • You entered more than one profile. You already have a profile here
  • You are not single.
  • You are under 18 (or at least your photo looks that way).
We do not notify you if your profile is deleted.

Someone I was talking to disappeared from the site. Where are they?
There are several reasons why a member might disappear from the site:
  • The member has been removed from the site by staff (as a result of complaints received about the member, or the member using the site for purposes other than dating: mass mailing, soliciting, requesting money from people, etc.)
  • The member has hidden their profile
  • The member has cancelled their profile
  • If you are trying to find them via a username search, you may have misspelled their username.

FORUMS

How do I post in the Forums?

TO CREATE NEW THREAD: Click on Start New Thread in the Forum nav bar, type, and submit. Your thread will appear on the list of All Threads and members will be able to view and post to it.

TO REPLY TO A THREAD: If you read a thread and want to get into the discussion: Click on the orange 'Reply to this Thread' button at the upper right of the page. Your post will appear at the bottom of that thread in the order it was submitted.

TO QUOTE ANOTHER POST: If you want to address your reply directly to one member's post in that thread: click on the button inside their post called "Post Reply". If you do this, their post will be copied and be included in your post answer - so USE THIS OPTION ONLY when you want to take exception to what that one person said and direct your answer to them.

Be sure to read the Forum Rules before posting.

How can I remove something I posted to the forums?
You cannot come back later and delete your posts because the threads would lose their flow and their meaning. Your forum entries help members learn about you. Your answers and attitudes there tell a lot about you. Consider this before you enter posts, as they cannot be removed.

If I post a poem to the forums, does it become your intellectual property?
No, we do not make any claim on your copyright of the poem or work. Our only concern is for the operation of the website.

By posting any text in your profile or in the Forums, you are giving Connecting Singles the right to use/display that text, piece, poem, article, photo, etc. on the site indefinitely. If you post a literary work you need to give credit to the author, whether it is you (username) or someone else (author's name). Per the site's Terms of Use, you agree that anything you post, you have the right to post, and are not infringing on any copyright when you do so. Forum entries remain even if a member leaves the site for any reason.

If you post anything in the Forums or on the site, please understand that it becomes part of the site (property of the site) and it will remain there even after you leave, that the site is viewed by the public, and that Connecting Singles is not responsible for how posted text is used by those who view it.

BLOGS

What is a blog on Connecting Singles?
A Blog is a journal you may enter about your life, your thoughts, interesting experiences, or lessons you have learned. It's a homepage on Connecting Singles that you can update on a regular basis, or just whenever you have something to say. You can write about an opinion, impart words of wisdom, or talk about something interesting in your day. Creating a blog is a good way to share something of yourself with Connecting Singles members. Reading blogs is a good way to learn more about members you have met here.

A blog IS NOT a personal-ad describing yourself or the person you are seeking. You already have a profile on the site for that.

A blog IS NOT a Forum for discussion, debate, advice or asking questions of other members. Join the Connecting Singles Forums for these purposes.

You may use your blog to record your thoughts, opinions and ideas. All blogs are open to viewing by the public and to comments from other members. You may read and then delete those comments to your blog if you wish. You may edit your own blog, however, you may not edit your comment to another member's blog.

BLOCKING

How can I block a member and keep them from contacting me?
The best way to handle unwanted mail is to Block the member that you do not want to communicate with. Click on the BLOCK THIS MEMBER FROM CONTACTING ME button inside an incoming message from him/her and they will no longer be able to send you mail or flowers, and they will get a message about being blocked when they try – so they will know you don’t appreciate what they have previously sent.

If the member has displayed bad manners or bad taste, the Block feature is the best solution. However, you should report anyone who you suspect of scam or illegal activity to: Report Abuse.

How do I UN-block a member once I've blocked them?
Go to your Blocked List (a link for your Blocked List is located at the bottom of your Mailbox and Flowerbox pages). When on your Blocked List find the person you want to unblock, then click the delete button next to their profile. This will delete them from your blocked list.

How do I block members from a certain location from mailing me?
Go to your Edit Profile page and click on Edit Mail Preferences, then check the boxes next to the locations where you WANT TO HEAR FROM (Any areas you don't want to hear from, you should uncheck the box). Then click "submit".

How do I delete someone from my favorites list?
Click on Favorites in the top navigation bar, find the profile you want to delete from your favorites list, then click the "delete" button next to the profile.

Do other members know if I favorite them?
No. Your favorites list is only for your own use, to keep track of the profiles that you are interested in. Use while browsing profiles to remember members you want to send mail to later.

WHO'S VIEWED ME

Who appears on my 'Who's Viewed Me' List (and who doesn't appear)?
  • Members who click on your full profile page will appear on your list.
  • If they see your profile in search results, but don't click on your full profile, they will not appear on your "Who's Viewed Me" list.
  • If a person clicks on your profile, but has their own "Who's View Me" list turned off, they will not show on your "Who's Viewed Me" list.
  • Multiple views on lists are recorded only once. If you view a profile or they view you several times, the view appears only one time on View Lists
If you are a:
  • woman seeking a man: only men seeking women will appear on your "Who's Viewed Me" list.
  • man seeking a woman: only women seeking men will appear on your "Who's Viewed Me" list.
  • woman seeking a woman: only women seeking women will appear on your "Who's Viewed Me" list.
  • man seeking a man: only men seeking men will appear on your "Who's Viewed Me" list.
Views do not appear immediately. When someone views your profile, there will be a few hours delay.

I don't want people to know when I viewed them. Can I turn it off?
Yes, you can turn off Who's Viewed me, and people will NOT know when you view their profile. But, you will ALSO not know when people view your profile, which is incentive for most people to keep it on.

Who's Viewed me TURNED OFF:
  • You will not see who has viewed your profile
  • Others will not see you have viewed them
  • Any existing views on your Who’s Viewed Me List will be deleted permanently
  • No views to your profile will be recorded while this feature is turned off - so you will not know who is viewing your profile while you have it turned off.
Who's Viewed me TURNED ON:
  • You will start seeing who has viewed your profile
  • Others will see you have viewed them
  • Multiple views on lists are recorded only once. If you view a profile or they view you several times, the view appears only one time on View Lists

To turn on or off Who's Viewed Me, go to Edit Profile in the top nav, and then click on
Edit Who's Viewed Me settings

I received an email/flower from someone who is not on my "Who's Viewed Me List"...How is this possible?
This can mean several things:
  • That member may have their "Who's Viewed Me" list turned off, so their view to your profile was not recorded
  • You may have "Who's Viewed Me" turned off, so that views to your profile are not being recorded
  • Who's Viewed Me has not been updated yet...there is a slight delay in the view being recorded
  • The member clicked on the Email/Flower button on the results page without viewing your full profile.

Why has no one viewed my profile?
There can be several reasons:
  • You just joined, and so no one has had the chance to viewed your profile yet
  • You don't have a photo and so you aren't appearing on very many search results. Most members search by photo-only.
  • You have just turned this feature on after having it off for a while. While it was off, views to your profile were not being recorded.
  • Your views were automatically deleted by our system after 60 days, and you haven't been checking them.
  • There is a several hour delay with Who's Viewed Me, and so there may be people on your list, but they aren't showing up yet.
What you can do to get members to view your profile:
  • Add a photo to your profile
  • Post to the Forums
  • Post a Blog
  • Don't wait for someone to come to you. Send lots of mail and flowers.

MAILBOX

How do I contact another member?
An Email button appears for each member on their profile and on search results. Click the button, and you will be taken to a Compose page to type your message and subject. Click "Send Message" and your message will be sent to the member’s onsite Inbox. A copy of your message will go to your outbox.

How do I view my inbox? (mail I have received)
Click Mailbox on the top navigation bar and a list of your incoming messages will appear. To view a message, click on the subject of the message. A new incoming message will have an orange background, and will say "No" under the "Opened" column. A message you have opened will have a white background, and will say "Yes" under the opened column.

How do I view my outbox? (mail I have sent)
Click Mailbox on the top navigation bar and a list of your incoming messages will appear. Now click the Outbox Tab to view your sent messages and a list of your sent messages will appear. To view a message you sent, click on the subject of the message. To view the profile of the receiver, click their photo or the profile "eye" icon.

Can I tell if another member has received my message?
Yes you can tell by the background color of the message (and whether it says "Yes" or "No" under the "Opened" column. Just view your sent messages by clicking Mailbox on the top navigation bar and then click the Outbox tab. Unopened messages have an orange background and say "No" under the "Opened" column. Opened messages have a white background and say "Yes" under the "Opened" column.

How can I receive mail ONLY from members within a certain age range?
There are a couple ways you can change your profile to explain the person you are looking for and avoid unwanted mail. All changes to your profile information are made on your Edit Profile page.

For your match’s age: Click on Edit Profile on the top navigation bar, then click on Edit Match Basics, enter age range (and any other changes), then be sure to click SAVE CHANGES at the bottom of the page to save the change you made.

Adding an extra note at the bottom of your narrative will reinforce and bring attention to your desired age range. Click on Edit Profile on the top navigation bar, and add a note to the bottom of your narrative that states that you are looking for a man/woman who is between this range only and that you will not respond to anyone older/younger.

If you receive mail from older/younger members you can either ignore the message and delete it - or you may block the member. Click the BLOCK THIS MEMBER FROM CONTACTING ME button in an incoming message from them and they will no longer be able to send you mail or flowers, and he/she will get a message about being blocked when they try – so they will know you do not want to hear from them.

How can I receive mail ONLY from certain locations?
Go to your Edit Profile page and click on Edit Mail Preferences, then check the boxes next to the locations where you WANT TO HEAR FROM (Any areas you don't want to hear from, you should uncheck the box). Then click "submit".

I am not getting responses to the mail I sent. My mail is not being opened. What is wrong?
We notify members when they receive onsite mail. If they have provided a valid email address, they will receive those notices; if not, they won't get the notices and it may be longer until they return to the site and see what you have sent. It is their choice to login and check their mail, and it is their choice whether or not to open or respond. We have no control over any of this.

If you are not willing to wait for a response, send mail to members whose last activity date is recent.

If a member does not open or respond to your mail, they may not have time to answer, they may be receiving too much mail already, they may be corresponding with someone special already, or they may just not be interested in your profile. Find someone else to write to...

It takes a lot of time and patience to find someone special. Don't give up. There is someone out there for you. That person may join tomorrow.

In the meantime, give members a reason to write to you. Add positive, upbeat info to your narratives about yourself, describe more about what you are seeking in your match, add some new photos, fill out the extended profile. Also, check out the Forums area of the site. Many members have a lot of fun meeting and talking there while waiting to meet ‘the one’. Add a blog about your thoughts or experiences to let others know more about you and possibly attract someone who feels the same (note that a blog is a journal - not a personal ad).

I registered, but it said I can't send mail yet.
You can't send mail to other members until your profile has been approved. You may start using all the features of the site as soon as your profile is approved. All features of the site are TOTALLY FREE TO USE. There are no surprise fees or hidden charges for sending or receiving messages, or any other feature.

We assume that you have read our Terms of Use and have entered valid, tasteful information when you registered. If that is not the case, or we suspect so, your profile will NOT be approved and will be deleted without notice.

SCAM, SPAM & SPYWARE

How can I know if a member is who they say?
We do everything we can at Connecting Singles to provide a quality and safe environment for singles to meet. However, we do not do background checks, and we have no way of knowing if the information a member enters in their profile is actually true or if their photo is really of them. It is up to each member to use good sense and extreme caution when corresponding over the internet with people they do not know. Don't be pressured to give personal information about yourself or family. Your onsite mailbox is provided to protect your anonymity. Use it. Don't give out your personal email address early on. Visit our Scam Happens pages for information on how to be aware and beware of scammers in online dating. Also see our Current Scams page.

They say they can't upload a photo... how likely that is true?
The photo excuse... If they want your email address to send you a photo with the excuse that they “can’t get a photo on the site”, or they “don’t know how to add a photo”, this may be a ploy to get your private email address. If they can email a photo to you… they can email (or mail) that photo to this site to be added for them. Refer them to their Photos page for details. Sharing your private email address may put you on mailing lists and subject you to loads of spam. CS does not share your email address and NEVER sends spam.

Someone on the site is asking me for money. Should I help them?
If anyone requests (or offers) you money for ANY reason on a dating site, it is a scam! Report them!

Does Connecting Singles share my email address, or have spyware on the site?
No, we NEVER share your email address. We NEVER send spam! We have no spyware on the site.
We use your email address to notify you when you receive messages/flowers on the site, and occasionally send match information.

If you are receiving spam in your email, consider the following:
  • Did you include your email address in the narrative text on your profile or forums posts here or on another site? (against site rules) If so, your email address may be picked up and placed on email lists and you will subject yourself to loads of spam!
  • Did you give your email address out to someone you didn't know online? Unfortunately, some people use online dating sites, to build email lists. These people will pressure you for your email address early on, and won't be interested in communicating through the site at all. They will make excuses for not communicating on the site (like using the photo excuse: saying they can't upload a photo to this site and wanting your email address to send you a photo). If you don't give your email address, they will move on to the next target.
  • Think about the other places you have entered your email address on or offline...where you may have been added to an email list.

I was scammed by someone on the internet. Can I post my story on your site to warn others?
Yes, post your story here to warn others, or if the scammer is on this site, report them and we will remove them promptly. Connecting Singles takes a hard line against scammers, and we have systems in place to help keep them off the site. We want our members to be aware of the red flags so that they may beware of potential scammers. Check out our scammers pages for more information.
